Mitsuo Kobayashi's Journal of the Journey to the Isle of Mist
Day 1 (Saturday, October 13):
The Katana has been loaded up and we're on our way. For twenty years I've looked for some way to defeat
Bako and my damned brother and return to the throne. I only hope that something can be found on the Isle of Mist
that will help us. Kenji is very anxious for a fight, so I hope I can keep his impetuousness in check. We will
see what this new place has in store for us
Day 2:
The journey is going well so far. The ship and her crew are working great, and the magical sail remains with a
full wind. Hiromi, our main lookout, spotted an airship cruising among the clouds, so it seems we shall not be
the first to arrive at the island after all.
Day 3:
There are some odd creatures in these oceans. The fish are larger and more bizarre looking than I've ever seen.
Hiromi spotted what looked like a giant tentacle in the distance, but we haven't yet seen it any closer, so we
shall see.
Day 4:
During the night, whatever beast belonged to that giant tentacle attacked our ship. A mighty arm reached across
the bow of the ship, grabbing at a crew member. We hurriedly grabbed a few bows from the storage area and fought
the beast off. An arrow to the eye will take care of just about any monster, it seems. I've increased the wind
power of the sails temporarily, to hopefully pull ourselves away from the beast. I can't leave it at this level
for long, though, as the sail will rip.
Day 5:
Today has been much quieter than the last. There is no sign of the beast any more, so I am hoping we've outrun
it. I've lowered the wind level in the sails, as they were showing signs of fatigue. I want to get to the
island soon. I don't know if the sail will be able to handle much more abuse.
Day 6:
The journey has become quite weary. The crew is tired of eating fish and want some variety. There seem to be
more creatures in the air now, so we must be nearing our destination.
Day 7:
Hiromi has spotted some mist in the distance, so I assume we have found our destination. I'm waiting until
daybreak tomorrow to make landfall. There's an opening in the mist, so we will make our way
there.
Day 8:
We saw signs of a campfire overnight, so it seems that someone else has also found their way to this place.
I do not wish to get into a confrontation yet, so I will not take any chances. I've prepared an armed
landing party, and will send Kenji to the island today and investigate.
Day 9 (Sunday, October 21):
The landing party found signs of a previous arrival on the land, and the bay that we discovered yesterday appears
to be occupied by another vessel. The owners of that ship have set up camp there, and I want to stay far away from
them for now. I have located a small cove to the extreme southern end of the exposed area. We will make landfall
there and set up camp. Once again we saw campfires overnight, so the other guests have not yet moved farther
inland. I have located an area that is suitably wide and flat to set up camp. I've ordered the Katana
to be unloaded, and temporary shelters set up. There seems to be plenty of timber around, so we can build a
more permanent settlement here while the territory is explored. Our adventure on the Island of Mist has begun!
