Mitsuo Kobayashi's Journal
December 15th
We have made alliances with a second group of people here on the island. First was, of course, Prince Lewllyn.
Now we have come across an interesting group of characters who have founded a city on this Isle. I met with their
founders, Gavin and Perseus, as well as their chief diplomat, a flamboyant and intruiging character named
Johnny Princeton. As these citizens are peaceful, and are seeking only asylum and a chance to start over, I
don't think we will be disturbing them. However, they have access to an airship that can quickly and easily
return to the mainland for supplies, so I have worked out a trade deal with them. In exchange for animals and
pelts, and the occasional protective services if they are required, they will bring supplies to us from the
mainland. It will be nice to have my horses again. I'm beginning to worry that with this many people inhabiting
the relatively small area here where the mist is cleared, we may run out of food during the winter. I don't
know what the winters are like here, but it's been cold and rainy quite a lot. Thankfully, our barracks have
remained dry.
In other news, we've been experimenting more with the mist, determining what its effects are on the human body.
I don't think that anything that we've ever encountered before can live within the mist, and I am not sure I
want to find out what sorts of creatures can live there. I'm wondering if anything is going to happen on the
other side of the mist, or if there is even anything there. Perhaps this is the end of the world, and there is
nothing on the other side.
The men have settled into a fairly comfortable routine here at the camp. Daily patrols, exploration, and training
keep the men occupied. I've been watching the mist for signs of receding, and while it fluctuates day to day,
overall it does not move. There continues to be some sort of block on the use of magic on the island.
I can't even do a simply healing spell when close to the mist. This worries me, as there will be limited ways to
heal the men if a battle occurs. Medicine isn't exactly easy to come by out here, and we haven't yet determined
if any of the plants here have homeopathic properties.
