Sensei Training Mech
12/20/2001
The Sensei is used by the EllerDrachen Mecha Piloting Corps to train new pilots in handling a large, maneuverable mech. The Sensei has no armor, no weapons, few sensors, and limited fuel capacity. It requires little skill to actually get to move, so it's quite easy to learn. However, performing complex motions, like squatting, kneeling, and stretching, take a great deal of practice for the average pilot. Because of its maneuverability, the Sensei can actually do some quite elaborate actions. Once pilots have mastered movement with the Sensei, they would move up to actual battle simulations with fully armed mechs.
I wanted to put as many points of articulation as possible into a fairly large scale mech, and still have it hold those poses and stand up under its own weight. I decided to leave it pretty much barebones to emphasize the joint designs. It has 23 points of articulation (25 if you include the cockpit and computer console movement). They include ball joints in the neck, shoulders, elbows, waist, hips, and ankles, click hinge joints at the knees, two poseable toes on each foot, two fingers and a thumb on each hand, and technic pins in the wrists. Overall it will stand up in most any pose, though due to its fairly tall height (16 inches) it is rather difficult to balance. I wanted to complete it with full armor and weapons, but it would've been too heavy to pose like this, so I kept it this way.
